Yeah, I agree. If the developers of the past got their hands on the newer hardware they would produce something extraordinary. Do you remember the old <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demoscene">demoscene</a> stuff? Some of those still look better than anything out there now and didn't require fancy graphics cards or processors over 33Mhz :P

Yeah it's crazy to think where we would be now if the quality of software had gotten better over the years. They had proper physics back in 1988-1990 ffs. Just think of where it could be now if they had stayed focused :'( Obviosly it's only the hardware IMO which has gotten better. In my eyes production values of software quality went down the toilet a while ago.....

I'm still really amazed how good this looks. I wish I had a chance to play it back then. I really can't wait to get a new PC so I can try it out in MAME :) LOL at the lovely finish!
